Carry a tune meme

What a great weekend! Very happy to be finishing with this, via Sunday Stealing.

Do you own a tablet of any kind? Yes, an iPad mini that’s about 3 years old.

What’s something people always assume about you that isn’t true? I’m not really sure – I’d happily be enlightened! Maybe that I’m always busy…

On a scale of 1-10, how much do elevators scare you? 2 for a normal elevator, 8 for a glass-bottomed elevator.

When you’re upset, do you vent to people or do you keep to yourself? If I’m truly upset, it will be silent treatment

Have you ever watched a meteor shower? No

Do you tend to put things off until the last minute? Work yes, I need a deadline. Other things, no.

How do you react to random strangers suddenly trying to make conversation with you? I’m always up for a chat (unless they look slightly deranged)

Do you have a lucky number? My family always pick 11 when doing tattslotto numbers – I have no idea why. I like to think it’s because I was born in the 11th month.

Would you go out to dinner with Oprah? Absolutely, especially if she was paying

Did you ever play sports? I played basketball for about a term at school.

Do you feel guilty if you throw food away?  Very. I like to think because I have a dog, I don’t waste as much, as she always gets the left-overs.

Do you think you could make it as a baker? No. My brother-in-law was an apprentice baker and tells horrible stories of coughing up white flour.

Are you one of those people who are wearing scarves with everything? Really? people are doing this?

Do you hate it when people smoke around you? Not really, happens so rarely these days.

How are you wearing your hair right now? Wild and free. Driving home this afternoon, I had my sunroof open and the windows down, so it was all over the place!

When’s the last time you were sick? I had a day off work around april last year – as a contractor, that’s a big thing! I can remember being horribly ill when my son was around 12 months old – we were both so ill for about 12 hours and thankfully my mum was able to help us.

Laundry day meme

Here’s this week’s meme, via Sunday Stealing

Resurrection

I know, it’s been a while. And I’m not at all happy with my creative progress. In fact, I’m still asking many of those same questions.
So here goes. Again.

This year meme

A bad habit I’m going to break: Overthinking. The Anxiety Toolkit is my next ‘to-read’ book.

A new skill I’d like to learn: Meditation. I’ve done Yoga over the years and I’d like to improve this, plus add meditation to the process. It’s ‘my yoga practice’ because even if you’ve done it for years and years, you can always get better with practice.

A person I’d like to be more like: Me a couple of years ago, when I didn’t worry so much.

A good deed I’m going to do: oh, I have to think about this one – it’s been a bit inward looking so far.  There will be a lot of donating to charity when we clean my nan’s place. Plus purchases from charity stores/receiving gracefully for my place when it’s ready.

A place I’d like to visit: a music festival. I’ve never been to one and would love to share the experience with friends.

A book I’d like to read: Many!  Only a few weeks ago, I’ve rediscovered my love of reading and have already read two books this year. Goodreads Reading Challenge accepted (25 books for me this year). With Book Group books (12) plus some other recommendations (lay ’em on me), I think that’s quite achievable after not reading for a couple of years.

A letter I’m going to write:  to Santa on E’s behalf (and I’m sure I’ll sneak in a mummy request!)

A new food I’d like to try: I am SO looking forward to cooking my first roast dinner in my own oven in my own apartment!

I’m going to do better at: I like this one, as even though I think I’m doing pretty good right now, we can always do better.  I’m going to do better at continuing what I start.  I’m a ‘opener’ according to Gretchin Rubin:  I love starting new projects, (er, you may have read a blog post or two 18 months ago and none since) and need to do better at keeping the momentum going.

With thanks from Sunday Stealing (and yes, I know it’s not Sunday, and a little late in January to set yearly intentions, but better late than never!)

The first…

It’s been on my mind for a while now to start a blog, but where to start? What’s not been done by someone else? What topic to choose? Blog your passion; ‘follow your passion’ is crappy advice. There is no right or wrong. Just start.

So here goes.

Thanks to Princess Pandora for pointing me to Sunday Stealing: my starting point.

1. Outside my window…

It is dark (9:45pm Sunday night), but I can see some twinkly lights in the distance

 2. I am thankful…

For many things: the usual (my son, my family, my dog), my current employment status, but mainly for making it through the toughest year of my life, intact and sane.

 3. In the kitchen…

There are probably dishes to be done.

 4. I am wearing…

My pjs

 5. I am creating…

My first blog post

 6. I am going…

Strong, so far

 7. I am reading…

Course materials for my grad certificate, although in 2.5 weeks this will be a VERY different answer!

 8. I am learning…

Formal learning, my grad certificate in Change Management. Informally, being a single mum, politics of new job, how to re-connect with friends after studying, navigating WordPress.

 9. I am pondering…

Things I shouldn’t two weeks before my studies finish… I should be studying, not thinking about blog topics, houses, dating or permanent jobs.

 10. A favorite quote…

“And the Buffy staked Edward, The End”

 11. One of my favorite things…

Getting a massage – tis the first thing on the to do list after assignment is submitted.

 12. A few plans for the rest of the week…

Study, writing, during the week and then 3rd birthday celebrations on the weekend

 13. A peek into my day…

Today started with a rare sleep-in, then we went out for brunch. My son (who isn’t a spewer) vomited as soon as we sat down at the cafe, but then demanded bread. We ate brunch, did some grocery shopping then came home. After a little quiet time, the E hit the wall. Some Panadol administered and he went to sleep for two hours (who knew when bedtime tonight would be). I did a computer back-up and blog searching. He woke up and chirped “I feel better now mum”. A sandwich and apple for him, pumpkin soup and a slice of left-over pizza for me was dinner. He had a bath, pjs, then a few stories: didn’t drink his bottle, but not surprised since that’s what triggered the vomiting this morning. He was surprisingly asleep by 9:15 and I won’t be far behind him.

Goodnight!
